Have you ever played at a teaching table to learn a new type of poker? I'm fairly familiar with 5 card draw, but I have been interested in holdem and some of the other types of poker, and I was thinking of playing at one of the tables for newbies at the casino, or do they just drain you of your cash?

I've never played at a teaching table, but I've hosted one a couple times when we had a bunch of new players over at a friends. You could always find a free online version to play if you're worried about them really wasting your money.

I wouldn't learn a new game at the casino. Like a previous poster said, there are plenty of places to learn the games online and play for free. Don't play at the casino until you at least know the basics of the game.

I think the best place to learn a new game would be among friends. I don't know that I would trust a casino. Why worry about losing your money while you are learning to play. With friends you could play for pennies, or even rocks for that matter!

I dont think I have seen many teaching tables before. Most people I know learn from family and friends. Are you talking about taking any classes as well?

I've seen dealers who are willing to teach you the game, but I wouldn't trust them either. Not when I was playing with money! I would try to learn new games at home, without stakes.

It's so much nicer to learn for free from home, don't you think? Without the stresses and pressure of being at the casino. I've learnt most of the games I now play at free online tables.

I don't think I've seen a "teaching table". How can they keep experienced players away from it and make sure just the newbies are there? I learned Hold-em both online and through reading a couple of books about it. I wouldn't want to learn any game at a casino.
