A maths teacher in Australia recently took his class to the races, horse racing, and gave them fake money to bet.  All this, the teacher says, to teach them the rudiments of probability and risks.  I think this is going a bit far and the exercise may have taught the kids more than math.

I think it really depends on the age of these kids. I don't think I would want a youngin going to a race and betting with fake money, but maybe more towards middle school type age. I can see the good that comes from it, but as a parent I don't think I would sign off on a small one doing that type of school trip.
