Court splits 2 million Euro jackpot between feuding gambling pair
A French court in Southern France has settled an ongoing dispute between a woman who put the money in a casino slot machine and the man who pulled the lever, by ruling the 2 million euros jackpot winnings should be split 80/20.
Marie-Helene Jarguel walked off with 2 million euros in March after placing a 50 euros bet on a ‘one armed-bandit’, only for her gambling accomplice Francis Sune to contest her partner’s winnings on the fact that he was the one that activated the machine.
The court in Montpellier ruled the winnings must be split 80/20 in favour of Jarguel, while the remainder of the lucrative jackpot should go to Sune.
In a groundbreaking case, the complicated matter required legal innovation because the Judge noted to Reuters: “There was no judicial definition of the winner in a slot machine.”
The scenario mirrors a similar story line to that of a Hollywood movie titled ‘What Happens in Vegas’ starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher, whereby the former walks away from a Wheel of fortune having put money in the machine only for the latter to activate the machine.
