Golden Globe nominees top Oscars betting odds
Bookmakers William Hill have already released their odds for the Academy Awards, more commonly known as the Oscars, despite the nominees not even being known.
William Hill currently have The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air as the favourites, seemingly taking their lead from the recently announced Golden Globe nominations.
Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘The Hurt Locker’ is the current frontrunner to win the Best Picture Oscar, with it currently being placed at Evens. Remarkably the Iraq war inspired drama is not the Golden Globe favourite. That honour is reserved for Jason Reitman’s ‘Up in the Air’ starring Academy panel favourite George Clooney.
At this stage the Best film category looks like a two horse race between those aforementioned, but behind them lie James Cameroon’s 3D epic ‘Avatar’ and ‘Precious’ at 9/1, while Clint Eastwood’s ‘Invictus’ is worth backing at 10/1.
Eastwood is notoriously loved in Hollywood and his story of the 1995 World Cup victory in South Africa starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon as Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar respectively, could be the dark horse given how well Eastwood’s films are usually received.
