Betting industry positive for economy
More than 100,000 people are employed by the betting industry in Great Britain with their hard work yielding a £6 billion figure for the economy, according to a Deloitte study commissioned by Ladbrokes.
The figures, which represents 0.5% of GDP and 0.3% of total employment, are deemed proof of the crucial role played by gambling commerce and look likely to be highlighted by lobbyists fearful of industry tax rises after the election.
Highlighting the 23% of bookmakers which earn only £17,000 profit a year, the study made clear that potential tax rises could cripple local businesses.
