Murray Victory would save bookies a mint

By Timothy Hamilton

Andy Murray has eased his way to the Australian Open final and bookmakers are hoping the Scot can overcome Roger Federer for a maiden Grand Slam victory.

The Swiss has been heavily backed before and during the tournament meaning a victory for the world number one would cost Boylesports a five-figure sum.

“Federer has been backed off the boards and if he wins, we’ll be taking at least a five-figure hit,” says Nicola McGeady, Boylesports Spokesperson. “Obviously, it’ll be a fantastic result for Murray if he can win the Aussie Open – and it would save our bacon too – we’ve certainly got everything crossed that he manages it.”
