Bookies suggest Terry is unlikely to lose captaincy

By Ben Moss

John Terry is likely to retain the England captaincy despite his alleged affair with Wayne Bridge’s ex-girlfriend according to Sky Bet.

Terry and England manager Fabio Capello are due to meet today to discuss the Chelsea stalwart’s behaviour and his subsequent suitability to the England captaincy, and although that has been a mass public backlash against the self-proclaimed ‘Mr Chelsea’, SkyBet suggest Terry will still be the man to lead England.

You can get 7/4 that he will lose the captaincy, or 2/5 that he will still be in the job for the friendly with Egypt on March 3rd, suggesting the smart money would be on Terry to captain England at the World Cup.

Should Capello decide against Terry, then Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard is the most likely to succeed him with Wayne Rooney the next in line. Gerrard is 5/2 to be the next skipper while Rooney is 6/1. Rooney’s Manchester United colleague and current England vice-captain Rio Ferdinand is 10/1.
