New Jersey Now Online with Poker and Casino »

Seven years after the US Senate passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and 6 months after online poker became legal in the state of Nevada, New Jersey has taken it one step further. Today, New Jersey allowed the launch of multiple online gambling sites offering casino and poker to persons physically located in the state.

As of 12:01 AM, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has allowed unrestricted access to 13 brands powered by 6 of the state’s Atlantic City casinos. The full list is available at the Division of Gaming Enforcement’s website here. Land-based operator Caesars Interactive Entertainment has partnered with 888 Holdings and Amaya Gaming, The Trump Plaza Hotel has tied up with the betting exchange Betfair. The Trump Taj Mahal has partnered with Nevada online pioneer Ultimate gaming. AC’s glitziest land based shop, the Borgata, is in bed with bwin.party. Last but not least the Tropicana Casino is working with Gamesys, the UK bingo and social games behemoth.

Golden Nugget Atlantic City and its well-known partner, Bally Technologies struggled with some content issues that made it difficult for players to play. The casino’s general manager, Tom Pohlman said this can be easily fixed within a week.

“We’d rather get it right than be embarrassed by something that doesn’t work. This is not a sprint for us; it’s a marathon,” said Pohlman.

While the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement did not announce how many players accessed online gambling during the trial run, they did mention that the numbers surpassed 10,000 early on. There are still some minor glitches to fix, mostly geolocation issues, but no one expects there to be any widespread issues moving forward.

Gambling.com will be coming out with full reviews of the sites available in New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware shortly.
