Q: In a friendly poker game, how much money should I take along?

5 of us are getting together for a friendly poker game. They’ve all played with real money before, I think, but not as a group. The organizer said to bring cash, is this usual. How should I take? Is it safe?

As in all poker games take along as much as you are prepared to lose on the night. If you have never played with these guys before it’s worthwhile finding out what sort of stakes they play for, but at the end of the day it’s your cash and you should decide how much of it you can live without.

Q: Why do people watch poker on television?

I don’t get it. There are late night shows showing people play poker. I leave it on as moving wallpaper whilst I do other things, but I guess other people watch it. I just would like to know why.

Yes poker shows are popular on late night TV. They provide a great way for people to learn the rules of the game, and we find to sharpen up your own skills by observing the good and bad points of other players.

Q: A question on pairs in poker?

OK, I have a pair of aces to start, and then the flop comes and I end up with a flush. Can I count the flush or would I have to use the pair of aces as my hand?

I’m not sure it’s possible to get a flush from te flop starting from a pair of aces. But I believe however you count the best hand that you are left with, in this case the flush.

Q: What is the basic game of poker called?

What is the regular game of poker called. Is it 5 card draw or is it Texas Hold em, or is just Texas Hold em just a popular variant

There are dozens of variations of poker. For years 5-card draw was the standard game. Over time Texas Holdem has become the new most popular game of poker, mostly because it is the game played in the main event of the World Series of Poker and because most pros consider it to be the hardest and most skillful form to play.
5-card draw is still played a lot in home games but it’s fading fast in popularity. You never find it in the mix of games offered in casino poker rooms and although there are 55 events in the World Series of Poker there isn’t a single 5-card draw game except triple draw 2-7 lowball.

Q: Question on Party Poker chat.

I’ve been playing Party Poker and suddenly I can’t chat or see people chatting. Does anyone know how to fix this.

I would check your chat settings, whether your speaker is on or not. If everything is fine try emailing their support support [at] partypoker.com

Q: All in in no limit poker?

I’ve been been watching the World Series Of Poker, where a player makes an all in bet. They still have chips left and if they lose they continue to play. Does anyone know how this works.

It depends on how many chips the person makes the call has. This is the amount of chips that go all in. Say the player making the call puts in £100, which is his entire pot, then the other players have to match that call, but might have more chips left than that. Should the all in player win, the others will lose the all in amount.
