Iraq banned from Olympic Games
Iraq have been banned from this summer's Olympic Games, it has been announced. The Iraqi government have replaced the country's Olympic committee and as under International Olympic Committee rules no political influence is allowed they have been thrown out of the Games.

Team GB set ambitious medals targets
The British Olympic squad have been set a target of finishing eighth in the medal table at this summer's Olympic Games, which would be the team's best display for 88 years. That would require 35 medals to be won, five more than in Athens four years ago, where the team finished tenth in the medal table.

Calzaghe leads sporting names in Queen's honours list
Joe Calzaghe heads the sporting names in the Queen's Birthday Honours list after receiving a CBE for services to sport and voluntary services in Wales. The champion boxer, who already has an MBE, is joined by rugby legends Lawrence Dallaglio and Bill Beaumont, while Northern Ireland striker David Healy has been given an MBE.

Former England rugby star Jeff Probyn, does NOT believe football can learn anything from rugby over disrespect shown by players towards officials. Probyn, who won 37 caps for England during the late 1980s and early 90s, claims abuse in his game is just as bad as in the Premier League.
