Bolt runs second quickest 100 metres in history
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt became the second fastest man over 100 metres on Saturday when he ran 9.76 in Kingston. Nicknamed 'the lightening bolt', the 21-year-old is confident he can go on to claim Olympic gold in Beijing in August.

Sotherton boosted by Hellebaut's withdrawal
Kelly Sotherton is the new favourite for the heptathlon after Tia Hellebaut withdrew from the competition to concentrate on the high jump. Defending Olympic and triple World Champion Carolina Kluft announced last week that she would focus on the long and triple jump, leaving the event wide open.

Lewis-Francis suffers Beijing blow
Britain's Gold medal hopeful Mark Lewis-Francis looks set to miss out on the Olympics after suffering an Achilles tear.The 25-year-old, who helped the 4x100m relay team to gold in Athens four years ago, was injured during warm-weather training in Cyprus.

Weir wins wheelchair event
Britain's David Weir continued his astonishing success at the London Marathon after claiming a third consecutive victory in the wheelchair event.Weir overcame the challenge of Australia's Kurt Fearnley and France's Deni Lemeunier to win the race in a time of one hour 33 minutes and 56 seconds.

Lel and Mikitenko victorious in London
Martin Lel set a new course record at the London Marathon as he won the race for the second consecutive year and the third time in the past four. The Kenyan finished ins a time of two hours five minutes and 15 seconds as he saw off the challenge of fellow countryman Samuel Wanjiru in a sprint finish.

Jones' team-mates lose bronze medals
The International Olympic Committee has taken back the medals awarded to Marion Jones' relay team-mates from the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The US women's team won bronze in the 4X100 and gold in the 4X400, both teams that Jones was part of.

Kluft will not defend her heptathlon title in Beijing
Olympic heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft has decided not to defend her title in Beijing later this year, boosting Great Britain's hope of securing a gold medal. Kelly Sotherton andJessica Ennis have been waiting in the wings, and now that Kluft has decided to contest the long jump and triple jump instead they could win gold come August.

Chambers hints at retirement
Dwain Chambers has hinted that he may retire after clinching a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia. Chambers, who ran the 60 metres in a personal best 6.54 seconds, tied for silver with former World 100 metre champion Kim Collins with Nigerian Olusoji Fasuba taking gold.

Chambers completes comeback with a silver medal
Dwain Chambers won a silver medal for Great Britain in the 60m final at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia finishing behind Olusoji Fasuba. Chambers set a new personal best with a time of 6.54 seconds, just beating former world 100m champion Kim Collins on the line for the second podium spot.
