Spurs make bid for Gomes
Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid for PSV's want-away goalkeeper Gomes, the Dutch club have announced. "Tottenham have made their interest known," said general director Jan Reker on Tuesday. The 27-year-old, rated at £10.2m by PSV, has a contract in Eindhoven until 2013 but wants to leave after coming into conflict with Reker.

England manager Fabio Capello has hailed John Terry after making the Chelsea defender his captain for the friendly international against USA. Terry has received the honour a week after missing a penalty in the Champions League Final that would have secured the Blues the trophy against Manchester United.

Capello: England played well despite defeat
Fabio Capello remained positive about England's performance in the international friendly against France in Paris, despite his team losing 1-0 thanks to Franck Ribery's first half penalty. The loss is the Italian's first in only his second game in charge of England.
