An epic Snooker World Championship quarter final at Sheffield's Crucible between Joe Perry and Stephen Maguire rumbled on late into Wednesday evening, with Perry edging out his opponent 13-12. The momentum of the tie swung all evening, and there were 50-plus breaks in all but two of the frames.

O'Sullivan to face Hendry in Crucible semi-finals
Ronnie O'Sullivan will play Stephen Hendry in the semi-finals of this year's snooker World Championship after beating Chinese star Liang Wenbo 13-7 at the Crucible in Sheffield. The highlight of O'Sullivan's day was a stunning clearance of 137 in frame 13, but he rarely reached the heights of his stunning performance against Mark Williams.

O'Sullivan hits maximum to see off Williams
Ronnie O'Sullivan hit a superb 147 as he beat Mark Williams 13-7 to reach the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible in Sheffield. It was the ninth maximum of the two-time World Champions career, which beats the record of eight that he shared with Stephen Hendry.

John Higgins and Peter Ebdon both go into Friday's play at the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield 5-3 ahead in their second round ties over Ryan Day and Mark King respectively. Both ties are the best of 25 frames, with each evenly poised after the opening session.

Davis' fightback in vain in Sheffield
Six-time winner Steve Davis produced a brave fightback but it was not enough as he crashed out of the World Championships after a 10-8 first-round defeat to Stuart Bingham at the Crucible in Sheffield. Davis had been 8-3 down but fought back to level before fading away at the last.

World Championship latest: Hendry prevails
Stephen Hendry produced a stunning comeback to see off the valiant challenge of qualifier Mark Allen 10-9 in a pulsating first-round tie at The Crucible. The seven time champion, who trailed 6-3, bounced back to level at 6-6 before going on to win the match.
