Roddick thanks law of averages after finally beating Federer
Andy Roddick believed the law of averages meant that he was destined to beat Roger Federer in their Sony Ericsson quarter-final clash in Miami. Sixth-seed Roddick won 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3 to end an 11-match losing run against Federer, with the victory only his second in the 17 meetings between the pair.

Virus forces Sharapova withdrawal from Dubai Championships
Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the WTA Dubai Championships after revealing she is suffering from a virus. The Russian star won the Qatar Open on Sunday as she continued her unbeaten start to 2008 but has admitted she would not be able to play five games in five days, which she would have to do if she reached the final.
