Sharapova rested by Russia ahead of Fed Cup tie
Maria Sharapova will be missing from the Russian squad that take on the USA in the FED Cup, it has been revealed. A deal was struck before Sharapova's Fed Cup debut against Israel last month which meant that Svetlana Kuznetsova would replace the world number one for the clash against the Americans in Moscow over the weekend of April 26-27.

Sharapova starts with a win
Russia's Maria Sharapova began her Fed Cup career with a comfortable 6-0, 6-4 win over Israel's Tzipi Obziler to level the tie at 1-1 in Tel Aviv. The Australian Open champion will now play Shahar Peer on Sunday in the reverse singles rubber in the quarter-finals of the competition.
