Faldo downplays Woods' absence from Ryder Cup
Europe's Ryder Cup captain, Nick Faldo, has downplayed injured American world No1 Tiger Woods' absence from the team event, which begins at Valhalla in Kentucky on September 19. In fact, with Woods in absentia, the Americans could be much stronger, Faldo has suggested.

Donald injury raises question marks over Ryder Cup place
Englishman Luke Donald, who was forced to retire because of injury from the US Open in the fourth round, could be a doubt for September's Ryder Cup, to be held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. The 30-year-old from Hemel Hempstead withdraw from Torrey Pines with only four holes remaining because his left wrist was troubling him.

Montgomerie: Extend the Ryder Cup
Colin Montgomerie has revealed he believes the Ryder Cup should become a four-day event. The Scot, who has never lost a singles match in his eight appearances in the tournament so far, believes that longer courses and more variable weather conditions sometimes means three days is too cramped a schedule.

Lyle hoping for 2010 Ryder Cup role
Sandy Lyle has thrown his hat into the ring to be named Ryder Cup captain in 2010, but the Scot fears it may be too late. Lyle, a two-time major champion, hit 50 earlier this year and has been tipped, along with Ian Woosnam, to be named captain for the contest at Celtic Manor in Wales, in two years' time.

Ryder Cup to go out of Europe in 2018 says European Tour Chief
George O'Grady, chief executive of the European Tour Chief, has admitted that the 'home' version of the Ryder Cup could be held outside Europe in future. The competition has only ever been staged in three European countries - England, Spain and Ireland, but could now move further afield.
