England head coach Martin Johnson has named four uncapped players in his first Elite Player Squad, including Wasps centre Riki Flutey. The World Cup winning captain Johnson began his job officially on July 1, and wasted no time in stamping his authority.

Thomas extends his contract with Ospreys
Jonathan Thomas, the Wales utility forward, has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the Ospreys. The contract extension ties the tall 25-year-old from Pembrokeshire to the Liberty Stadium until the end of the 2010/11 season.

Borthwick 'honoured and privileged' to be given captaincy nod
Steve Borthwick has revealed he is 'honoured and privileged' to have been named the first captain of Martin Johnson's new era at the helm of the England team. Bath lock Borthwick, 28, was yesterday handed the job for next month's two-Test tour of New Zealand, after World Cup captain Phil Vickery was ruled out by a knee injury.

Brian Ashton is likely to accept the role of head of the National Academy of the RFU, according to RFU Chief Executive Francis Baron. Ashton was this week sacked as Head Coach of the senior England side to make way for Martin Johnson.

Ashton will not be sacked say RFU
Brian Ashton will not be sacked according to the Rugby Football Union. Martin Johnson will have his powers limited too, if named manager it has emerged. Ashton's position as England head coach has been in doubt since it emerged the RFU were courting World Cup winner Johnson for the team manager's role.

Wales clinch Six Nations with victory over France
Wales claimed Six Nations glory with a 27-12 victory over France at the Millenium Stadium. Knowing they needed to avoid defeat by 20 points to secure the Grand Slam, Wales got off to the dream start as they edged ahead on five minutes through James Hook's penalty after France strayed needlessly offside.
