Saracens Director of Rugby Eddie Jones has praised the decision to appoint new signing Steve Bothwick as England captain. Youngsters will be blooded on 'toughest tour' of New Zealand - Johnson
Martin Johnson, England's new manager, expects the tour to New Zealand to be one of the toughest in the career of the 32 men he has selected to represent the country. The 38-year-old World Cup winning captain named six uncapped players to fly out to New Zealand next month, but he hopes that it will harden them.

Bath second row Steve Borthwick has been named England captain by new manager Martin Johnson. The 28-year-old will skipper the 32-man squad, named by the World Cup winner on Tuesday morning, on their tour to New Zealand, which begins in June.

Deacon to miss Premiership semi and New Zealand tour
England and Leicester second row Louis Deacon has been ruled out of Martin Johnson's tour squad to New Zealand - due to be named on Tuesday morning - and will miss the remainder of the domestic season, as he will not recover from a back injury in time.

Cipriani leads award nominations
Wasps and England star Danny Cipriani has been nominated for two end of season awards after his outstanding season. Cipriani, who is up for the Guinness Premiership Player of the Season and the Land Rover Discovery of the season, won his first international cap earlier this year and helped kick his club side into the play-off semi-finals.

Watkins agrees Gloucester switch
Matthew J. Watkins, one of the most talented game-breakers in the Magners League, has agreed a two-year deal with Gloucester. The Llanelli midfield star will switch to Kingsholm in the summer and has become the latest international to join Dean Ryan's squad following the announcement of Bath centre Olly Barkley's recruitment.

Care plays himself into England contention
Danny Care played himself into contention for an England tour spot but was unable to stop Harlequins slipping to an agonising Premiership defeat to Leicester. Tom Varndell's 76th minute try completed a remarkable Tigers' comeback that saw them claw their way back from 28-17 down with 12 minutes left on the Welford Road clock.

Newcastle secure services of Tait for another season
Newcastle Falcons has secured the services of another of its brightest young prospects, with the news that Alex Tait has signed a new one-year deal. The England Under-20 star, who can play fullback or centre, scored a hat-trick on his Falcons first team debut earlier this season, going on to make ten appearances in his maiden campaign.
