Agger missed most of 2007/2008 due to a broken metatarsal early in the season as the Anfield side finished 11 points behind winners Manchester United.

Mascherano called up to Argentina Olympic squad
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has been called up to Argentina's Olympic squad. The 24-year-old has been named as one of three over-age players in Sergio Batista's squad and will miss up to a month of Liverpool's season from late July.

Former Liverpool defender Mauricio Pellegrino has been confirmed by Reds manager, Rafael Benitez, as the club's new first team coach. The Argentine made 12 appearances for the club in 2005, and moves from Valencia, where he was youth team coach.

The Norwegian left-back was on the fringes of the first-team last term after losing his spot to Fabio Aurelio, and his last act of significance at Anfield was the last-minute own-goal that helped propel Chelsea to victory in their Champions League semi-final.

Riise set for Anfield exit
John Arne Riise looks set to leave Liverpool after the Premier League club gave the defender permission to speak to Roma.The Norway international, who has also been linked with moves to Aston Villa and Newcastle, has fallen out of favour at Anfield and could now make the switch to Rome this summer.
