The First Round draw for next season's Carling Cup was drawn on Friday morning, and it has thrown up a number of interesting ties, including Championship new boys Reading having to travel to League Two Dagenham & Redbridge.

Keane: Sunderland should be inspired by Portsmouth's success
Sunderland manager Roy Keane has told his players they should be inspired by Portsmouth's FA Cup success and he will target both the FA and Carling Cups next season. Sunderland have not won a cup game since January 2006, having gone out at the first hurdle on the last five occasions in both competitions.

Watford captain has red card rescinded for play-off
Aidy Boothroyd has had a boost ahead of Watford's crucial Chgampionship play-off second leg: his captain John Eustace has had his red card from the first leg rescinded, and will be available for Wednesday's game at the KC Stadium.

Malbranque: Now I'm aiming for Euro 2008
Tottenham winger Steed Malbranque is praying his Carling Cup success will help him force his way into the France squad for the Euro 2008 Finals this summer. Malbranque has been one of the most improved players at White Hart Lane this season and has clearly benefited from the arrival of Spanish coach Juande Ramos.

Drogba sets Carling Cup scoring record
Didier Drogba scored in his third League Cup final to become the first player to score in three different finals and also becoming the all-time top scorer in League Cup finals with four goals. Drogba had been one of six players who had scored goals in two different League Cup finals before today.

Spurs pair stunned by victory
Tottenham duo Paul Robinson and Jonathan Woodgate admitted they were stunned but delighted after Chelsea were beaten 2-1 in the Carling Cup Final at Wembley. Woodgate was the hero with an extra-time winner after Dimitar Berbatov had cancelled out Didier Drogba's first-half opener.

Grant slams Halsey after Final defeat
Chelsea manager Avram Grant has slammed referee Mark Halsey after his side threw away a one goal lead to lose 2-1 to Tottenham in the Carling Cup Final at Chelsea. Halsey gave a penalty that Dimitar Berbatov converted with 20 minutes left before Jonathan Woodgate won the tie in extra-time.

King: I was spurred on by memory of Cup Final defeat
Tottenham captain Ledley King admitted that he was spurred on by the memory of a cup final defeat again after seeing his side come from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Carling Cup Final at Wembley. King was part of the Tottenham side that lost the Worthington Cup Final to Blackburn in 2002.

Tottenham 2-1 Chelsea
Jonathan Woodgate headed Tottenham to a dramatic 2-1 victory over holders Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final at Wembley thanks to a terrible howler from Petr Cech in extra-time. Cech missed a free-kick from Jermaine Jenas and only succeeded in flapping the ball against Woodgate's head and into the empty net in the 94th minute.

Grant: Terry and Lampard start as they are English
Chelsea manager Avram Grant admitted that he selected John Terry and Frank Lampard to start in his Carling Cup Final side in part because they are English. The pair were thought to be on the verge of missing out on the side but Grant selected them in place of Alex and Michael Ballack.
