Murray gives Britain early lead

Andy Murray saw off Marin Cilic in five sets to give Great Britain a crucial 1-0 lead in their Davis Cup tie against Croatia. The Scot was made to sweat by his opponent, coming from a set down to eventually overcome the 18 year-old Cilic 3-6 6-4 6-2 4-6 6-3.

Murray's rustiness from a lack of match practice showed as he struggled to cope with the Croatian's powerful serve on a blustery day at Wimbledon.

But after Cilic took the first set, the British No.1 regained his composure to play some sublime ground strokes en route to taking the next two sets with ease. And despite a collapse in the fourth, he broke the World No.108 early in the fifth and went on to smoothly serve out the match.

It gives the British team a huge boost going into Tim Henman's second rubber against rookie Roko Karanusic.

The former British No.1 was due to play Ivan Ljubicic but he was forced to pull out with a recurrence of a urinary infection.
