Villeneuve delighted to have rediscovered the buzz
Jacques Villeneuve says he has rediscovered the natural thrill of racing again after switching his attention to NASCAR. The former Formula One world champion made his debut at the weekend in the Craftsman Truck race in Las Vegas and finished 21st.
Villeneuve struggled in F1 for nine seasons following his world championship with Williams in 1997 and often looked weighed down by the pressure of delivering on the track.
But he believes he is a new driver after setting his sights on the main NASCAR Nextel Cup series.
"I'm 20 again. Everything is new to me, even though I have a lot of experience. This is brand new and that's really exciting," he explained.
"That's when you work best, when your brain is actually excited about solving the problem. It's a whole new world and you just soak it in the whole time. I think you work better that way."
"I want to get through the race and see the checkered flag. Finishing position is not important, getting experience is."
