PSV thrown out of the Dutch Cup

PSV have been thrown out of the Dutch Cup after fielding an ineligble player. Manuel da Silva played in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Heerenveen, despite being suspended for the match.

Da Costa had received yellow cards in last season's cup matches against Go Ahead Eagles (3-2) and NAC Breda (0-3) and therefore faced a one match ban.

PSV general director Jan Reker said: "This is a tremendously foolish mistake, for which there is no excuse. The last word in this matter has not yet been spoken."

As a result of the sanction, Heerenveen have been reinstated into the third round of the Dutch Cup by default.
