Van Gaal keen to avoid unwanted record
Louis van Gaal is on the brink of making his worst ever start to a season as a manager going into AZ Alkmaar's Eredivisie game against Heracles Almelo on Sunday. AZ have picked up just seven points from their first five games this term, putting the coach's future in doubt.
And defeat to Heracles would make it the worst ever opening for van Gaal, breaking his personal record from 2002 when his Barcelona side managed just eight points from the first six matches in La Liga.
Van Gaal is also under pressure following AZ's midweek Dutch Cup defeat at the hands of second division outfit Cambuur Leeuwarden.
