Rose looking for silverware

Rose looking for silverware

Justin Rose believes the only thing missing from his excellent season is another piece of silverware - and hopes to claim that this Sunday. The Englishman has climbed to 11th in the world rankings after a string of top 10 finishes but has only won once on Tour this term.

His solitary victory this season was at the MasterCard Masters in Australia last December.

But he now hopes to add the HSBC World Match Play Championship title to his name.

Rose, who will tee off against American Hunter Mahan at Wentworth on Thursday, started the year in 50th place in the world rankings.

Having broken into the top 11, he has achieved all the targets he set himself this season but wants to top it off with a win.

He said: "I feel like I have achieved all my goals. I wanted to get into the top 20 and I've done that now.

"I guess the last thing on the list is to win another tournament. I have had three seconds and a nice piece of silverware would cap off a good year for me."

Rose has split his time between the European and the PGA Tour in America this year but despite his limited schedule in Europe, he remains in the hunt for the Order of Merit.

He is just £21,903 behind leader and Open winner Padraig Harrington and the £1m first prize cheque at Wentworth will put him in pole position.

He added: "Winning the Order of Merit was not on my to-do list. I did not think it was possible to win it by playing only 11 tournaments.

"But it is very doable now. I am moving in the right direction and it is certainly a mini-goal which has presented itself halfway through the season."
