Casey to spend more time in America
Paul Casey has announced he will spend the majority of his time playing on the PGA Tour in America next season. The Englishman, who is defending his title this week at the HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth, will follow the example of countryman Justin Rose.
Rose has jumped a massive 39 places in the world rankings after limiting his playing schedule in Europe.
Casey, currently 22nd in the world, now hopes to do the same to cement his place in next year's Ryder Cup team by breaking into the top 10.
He said: "I am taking my card to the US and I will play my 15 mandatory tournaments over there.
"The Ryder Cup is one of the large goals on my list, so I need to find a way to make sure I qualify for that.
"I am not turning my back on Europe and never will do, but I want to qualify for the Ryder Cup through my world ranking.
"Now I have earned enough prize money, the PGA Tour have welcomed me with open arms and I am looking forward to playing a full schedule over there."
Casey, who beat Jerry Kelly 3 and 2 today, has been asking Tiger Woods' agent for advice about switching tours.
Casey added: "I have been speaking to Mark Steinberg to ask him advice about what tournaments I should be playing in over there.
"I'd love to think I can copy Tiger's schedule. If Tiger plays well at a certain golf course then it is also likely to suit my game.
"Basically, I need to cut down my schedule because a couple of times this year I've not been able to give 100 per cent because I was too fatigued."
Meanwhile, Rose crashed out of the HSBC Match Play after going down to American Hunter Mahan 5 and 4.
