Radcliffe wins Nwe York Marathon
Paula Radcliffe has won her second New York Marathon as she competed in her first 26-mile race for over two years. Radcliffe, who won the race in 2004, gave birth in January but she held off Ethiopian rival Gete Wami in a sprint finish to claim glory in the Big Apple.
In fine conditions Radcliffe put in a superb performance to finish in a time of 2 hours 23 minutes and nine seconds.
Radcliffe stormed ahead in the opening stages and opened up a sizeable lead but the 33-year-old was forced to defend against Wami, who drew level with her just one mile from the line.
And she held on to win seventh marathon of her career.
