Harrington suffers under weight of expectation in Shanghai

Padraig Harrington admits there is more expectation on him after winning the British Open earlier this year. The Irishman, who narrowly missed out on claiming the European Tour Order of Merit, slipped seven behind leader Kevin Stadler at the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai after shooting a 72 in his second round to stay at four under par.

And although Harrington accepts the pressure has increased since lifting the Claret Jug back in July, he says the knowledge that he is a Major winner continually gives him a confidence boost.

"There's a bit more emphasis and expectation from people out there," he explained.

"There may be a few people out there who might only be following me because I am the Open Champion, so it is nice.

"The Claret Jug is here me this week and that's pretty special. What's fantastic is that you bring it somewhere like this andthe attitude towards it is amazing.

"Everybody wants their picture taken with it. It's phenomenal to watch people when they hold it. You know, it's a great thing to have and be the champion."
