EXCLUSIVE: Pearce rules himself out of England running
Stuart Pearce has ruled out any prospect of him taking the England manager's job should the Football Association decide to sack Head Coach Steve McClaren. The England under-21 manager was previously linked with the post during his time with Manchester City, just eighteen months before he was shown the door at Eastlands.
With England's qualification hopes hanging by a thread, McClaren is walking on increasingly thin ice, but Pearce insists he does not possess the necessary qualifications to take the top job in English football.
"It's not a problem for me because I would laugh it off like I laughed it off a year ago when I was touted for the England job when I was the Manchester City manager," said Pearce.
"I'm a manager learning my trade, I'm enjoying the job I'm doing at the moment and if someone would ask me an honest question about whether I would have the credentials for the England job I would say 'absolutely not.'
"I told people at the time it was silly and I laughed it off. It's ridiculous; there are a lot of better qualified people than me.
"It's the top job in English football and the top job has to be filled by people with the top credentials."
