Euro 2008 finalists confirmed

Portugal confirmed their Euro 2008 place after drawing 0-0 with Finland. They join Sweden, Turkey and Russia, who all qualified for next summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland this evening. Luiz Felipe Scolari's side join fellow Group A side Poland, who guaranteed their spot at the Euro 2008 finals after defeating Belgium on Saturday.

Steve McClaren's England, who last failed to qualify for the European Championships in 1984, needed a draw against Croatia at Wembley, but lost 3-2. The result means that there will be no country in the British Isles represented at Euro 2008. Denmark will be other notable absentee in next summer's tournament.

Turkey join Greece as qualifiers from Group C as Nihat Kahveci scored the only goal in their game against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Istanbul. The Villareal forward's 23rd goal for his country ruined any chance Norway had of qualifying.

Poland, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Croatia, Spain and Romania all qualify in first positions in their respective groups.

Portugal, France, Turkey, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Holland all qualify in second position and will not receive as favourable groups come next June.

The finals will be held from June 7 - 29, and the draw for the finals will take place on Saturday December 2.
