FA set for showdown talks with McClaren
Steve McClaren's future could be decided on Thursday morning at an emergency board meeting at Soho Square. The Football Association will convene to discuss England's failure to qualify for the European Championship Finals after a 3-2 defeat by Croatia at Wembley on Wednesday night.
The defeat means England have failed to qualify for an international tournament for the first team since 1994 - throwing McClaren's job into major jeopardy.
Although McClaren has made clear he does not wish to discuss his future, he could have little say in the matter, with FA boss Brian Barwick likely to demand showdown talks just days before the pair are scheduled to fly out to South Africa for the World Cup draw.
McClaren is still planning to join the entire FA board for the flight on Friday, but could find himself relieved of his duties during the talks on Wednesday.
