Prosinecki: English arrogance led to their downfall
Croatia football legend Robert Prosinecki has slammed England and their so-called 'Golden Generation' of footballers - claiming arrogance was the main reason for their downfall. Prosinecki, who won 49 caps for Croatia and acts as assistant to national coach Slaven Bilic, insists England's ongoing problems are all of their own making.
And the former Barcelona man, who also enjoyed a short spell in English
football with Portsmouth in 2001, insists a change of attitude is needed if England are to succeed.
"England need to lose their arrogance," Prosinecki told El Pais.
"Croatia were better in possession and England did not play at all well.
"Everyone was talking about a golden generation in English football - but they haven't won anything.
"They should have won at least one major tournament in the last eight years.
"In what was perhaps our biggest ever game in a magnificent stadium, Croatia showed what an excellent team we are."
