Porto skipper hoping to pile pressure on Liverpool and Rafa Benitez
Porto captain Pedro Emanuel believes Liverpool could fail to deal with the pressure of having to win their Champions League game on Wednesday night to stay in the competition and keep Rafa Benitez in a job. Benitez's side will crash out if they fail to beat Porto at Anfield.
Defender Emanuel knows that with Benitez's position also on a knife-edge right now, that could make the Reds nervous. And he is adamant Porto have the skill to take full advantage.
"We are going to Liverpool with one aim which is to finish top of the group. We are top now and we want to leave in the same position," he said.
"Liverpool must win and that is an extra pressure that could damage them.
"We know about their potential and we respect them as an opponents, but if we play to our level it is impossible to lose.
"Porto want to show that we can go to any stadium in Europe and get a victory."
Failing to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Champions League could cost Benitez his job, having publicly clashed with new American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks in the past week over transfer dealings.
And Emanuel says Porto will not show any sympathy for the Spaniard.
He added: "I don't know whether Benitez is gambling with his job at the moment, but I warn that our objective is to knock Liverpool out of the Champions League."
