Serbia and France victorious in Hopman Cup

Serbia produced a dominant performance to beat Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia. Jelena Jankovic, the women's world number three, and her compatriot Novak Djokovic, who occupies the same slot in the men's standings, each won their singles matches in straight sets before combining to win the doubles.

Jankovic was forced to battle through two tight sets against Su-Wei Hsieh before winning 6-4 6-4, while Yen-Hsun Lu took a set off Djokovic, who was struggling with a back injury, before going down 7-5 2-6 6-3.

And it was far from easy for the Serbs in the doubles, which saw the Chinese Taipei duo take the opening set 6-3, before the game was evened up after Jankovic and Djokovic took the second 6-2. The decisive third set went to a tie-break and even then it was hard to separate the partnerships, but the Serbs took it 10-8 to set up a meeting with France.

The tie between France and Argentina came down to a decisive third rubber after the singles were shared, Tatiana Golovin beating Gisela Dulko 6-4 6-3, before Juan Ignacio Chela levelled the score by defeating Arnaud Clement 6-3 6-1.

But it was to be the French pair of Golovin and Clement that triumphed in the end, producing an impressive showing to seal victory 6-3 6-2.
