Part cruises to PDC world darts title

John Part won his third world darts title after beating qualifier Kirk Shepherd 7-2 in the final of the PDC Championship. The Canadian raced into a commanding lead by claiming the first four sets and never looked in danger of letting his advantage slip.

Part, who won the BDO world title in 1994 and the PDC version in 2003, was rarely in trouble against the 21-year-old from Kent as he took the third and fourth sets without even dropping a leg.

Shepherd would have become the youngest-ever world darts champion if he had clinched victory, but was left with a mountain to climb after a nervous start.

He did win a couple of sets to pull back to 5-2, but Part claimed the next to put himself on the brink of victory and closed it out after Shepherd had missed double top in the fifth leg.
