Fish and Williams power USA to Hopman Cup final
USA powered their way into the final of the Hopman Cup with a 3-0 whitewash of Australia. They will now play Serbia, who needed Jelena Jankovic to play through the pain barrier to beat Argentina, on Friday for the trophy.
In the early session, Serena Williams and Mardy Fish were far too strong for Alicia Molik and Peter Luczak.
Williams beat Molik 6-2, 7-6 in the women's singles rubber, while Fish claimed a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Luczak in their showdown.
The American duo completed the rout with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the mixed doubles to claim top spot in their group.
In the opposite half of the tournament, brave Jankovic helped the Serbs to a 2-1 victory they needed over Argentina to pip France and Chinese Taipei to a place in the final.
Jankovic was forced to forfeit her singles match to Gisela Dulko after suffering a recurrence of her hamstring injury.
But Novak Djokovic beat Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2, 6-3 in the men's singles, before Jankovic returned in the mixed doubles and helped Serbia to a vital 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 win
