Trahan hoping Chrysler Classic win is a sign of things to come

DJ Trahan says he is aiming to build on a superb start to the season after stunning Justin Leonard to win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in California. Trahan put on a putting master class to reel in the 35-year-old Texan and claim his second PGA tour tournament win, and first since 2006, with a final day seven-under-par 65.

Trailing the 2005 winner, Leonard, by four shots at the start of the day and by three after nine holes, Trahan was delighted with his win, saying: "It means a lot.

"I totally did not expect Justin to fold at any time, and why should you expect him to? He's got a fantastic track record. So to have run him down and win the golf tournament means a lot."

Trahan is hoping the victory will set him up for a good season, with improved performances in the majors his first aim.

"Now I feel like hopefully that I can use this as a stepping stone to take my game to where I feel like it can be," he added.

"I'm going to be playing in the Masters, and I didn't get that opportunity after my first win, so I'm really looking forward to that."
