Tsonga through to face Nadal in semi-final

A spectacular display of power hitting from the unseeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga saw the Frenchman ease his way past Mikhail Youzhny and into the semi-final of the Australian Open. Tsonga, who had already beaten Andy Murray and Richard Gasquet, simply had too much power for his Russian opponent as he triumphed in straight sets.

An absorbing first set was eventually won by Tsonga when he broke the serve of the tenacious Russian in the 12th game, to win it 7-5. That break was the first of four on the trot that saw Tsonga claim the second set 6-0 in only 29 minutes.

Youzhny, the 14th seed, simply had no answer to Tsonga's big serve and powerful ground strokes and despite battling back in the third set he eventually went down 8-6 in a tie-break.

Tsonga, 22-years-old, will be playing in his first ever Grand Slam semi-final when he takes on world number two Rafael Nadal later this week.
