Cameroon hit Zambia for five as Eto'o equals record

Cameroon put their nightmare defeat to Egypt firmly behind them as they romped to a 5-1 victory over Zambia to leave Group C of the African Cup of Nations delicately poised. Newcastle United's Geremi started the rout on the half-hour mark, with former Middlesbrough striker Joseph Desire Job bagging a brace in Tamale.

Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o's second-half penalty saw him equal Laurent Pakou's all-time scoring record in the competition as the Indomitable Lions eased to victory.

Cameroon started brightly, with Eto'o continually looking to stretch the Zambian backline.

However they were made to wait until the 28th minute before breaking the deadlock, with Geremi curling in a wicked free-kick.

Their second owed much to some comic Zambian defending.

Both Kennedy Nketani and Billy Mwanza both missed chances to clear the ball, leaving Job with the simplest of chances to double the lead.

The Chipolopolo had everything to play for following their 3-0 demolition of Sudan, but their defensive frailties made it all too easy for the Cameroon frontline, who were ruthless when presented with chances.

Achille Emana made it three shortly after half-time and Job capitalised on more hazardous defending to bag his second after Eto'o netted from the penalty spot.

Zambia did manage to find the net courtesy of Kotongo's close range finish just minutes from time.
