Henry scores as Barcelona advance to domestic cup semis
Thierry Henry fired Barcelona to the semi-final of the Spanish domestic cup. The former Arsenal forward has struggled to pin down a starting berth in his first season. But in scoring the only goal in Barca's Kings Cup quarter-final against Villarreal, the French attacker pushed his case for a regular place in Frank Rijkaard's first eleven.
The 30-year-old £16m summer signing nodded in the winner four minutes shy of the interval at the Nou Camp on Thursday, and the Catalan club march on to the Copa del Rey finale.
With perennial rivals Real Madrid romping nine points clear in La Liga, the cup is Barca's most likely source of silverware this season.
Villarreal made things harder for themselves when another former Arsenal player, Pascal Cygan, was ejected for picking up two bookings.
Rijkaard's team will face Racing Santander, who are riding high in fifth place in La Liga.
Racing will compete in the semi-finals for the first time after a 3-3 draw at Athletic Bilbao put them through 5-3 on aggregate.
The two sides will join last season's losing finalists Getafe and Ronald Koeman's Valencia in the hat for Friday's semi-final draw.
