Huntelaar stars as Ajax ease past Feyenoord
Ajax beat Feyenoord 3-0 in the Amsterdam ArenA in the Dutch Classic as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a superb hat-trick. Ajax were close to scoring the opening goal after 15 seconds when central defender Kevin Hofland was caught napping. Eredivisie top scorer Huntelaar saw his shor brilliantly saved by Feyenoord goalkeeper Henk Timmer.
In the eighth minute Ajax went ahead when defender Johnny Heitinga surged forward unmarked and was found by Luis Suárez. The Dutch international calmly slotted home to make it 1-0.
On the brink of halftime the home side doubled their lead when Gabri broke through on the right flank and delivered a perfect cross for Huntelaar to head home.
In the dying seconds of the game Huntelaar latched onto a clever Rasmus Lindgren pass to make it 3-0.
Ajax climb into second place in the Dutch Eredivisie and trail table leaders PSV by eight points.
