Staunton appointed No2 to McAllister at Leeds
Steve Staunton has been appointed as Gary McAllister's assistant manager at Leeds United. The League One club were in need of a new manager last week when the erstwhile boss Dennis Wise relinquished his position to take up his role as Executive Director at Newcastle United.
Soon after tempting McAllister to the club, Leeds chairman Ken Bates has managed to entice former Republic of Ireland manager Staunton to take on a No2 role.
Both men, former Liverpool team-mates, have joined for an initial period until the end of the season. McAllister actually signed Staunton as a player during his time as Coventry City manager - his only other foray into management.
Staunton said: "I'm delighted to be here. Gary brought me to Coventry as a player, I played with him at Liverpool, and it's nice to team up again.
"I hope I can be of assistance and help this great club get back to where it belongs.
"It's a great opportunity to work at a big club with a good manager, and learn the ropes from someone else on the inside and see how a club runs.
"Your next progression after playing is coaching and managing and this is a great opportunity for ourselves to be part of something that will be big in a few years."
