Megson: Premier League survival over UEFA Cup glory

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson insists Premier League football is still the priority at the Reebok Stadium, despite the looming prospect of a glamour UEFA Cup tie against Atletico Madrid. The Trotters take on Madrid at home on Thursday in the first leg of their third round clash.

And although Megson has hinted that, as the club are without a weekend game due to their early exit from the FA Cup, he may field a stronger side than he usually puts out in cup competitions, he is still only bothered about Premier League survival.

Megson has been quite happy to field a combination of first and fringe players in the earlier rounds.

He said: "It is a little unusual because we do not have a game at the weekend, so we may be able to do things a little bit different.

"But it will still be the same principles that Premiership survival is a lot more important than Europe."
