Swim suit released in time for Beijing

A new space-age swimming suit, which is expected to be used by most athletes at the Beijing Olympics in the summer, was launched by Speedo on Tuesday. To celebrate their 80th anniversary the Australian company unveiled their LZR RACER suit, claiming that it is the 'world's fastest swimsuit'.

The new suits are expected to be used by a majority of the top swimmers in Beijing, in the impressive Water Cube facility. And Great Britain's swimmers Liam Tancock and Caitlin McClatchey, who are expected to be among the medals in the summer, endorsed the new suits.

Tancock, who is hoping to compete at the Olympics for the first time this year, said: "The suit feels like a second skin, my body is totally compressed in the water and my hips are high."

McClatchey represented Team GB at Athens 2004, and added: "It makes swimming feel effortless, I can feel the water around me but does not hinder my performance in any way."

The Speedo LZR Racer suits are seamless and boast five per cent less passive drag than the Speedo FS-PRO which was launched just under a year ago.

Speedo worked with NASA, the Australian Institute of Sport and the University of Otago in the development the suits.
