Berg at the double for Groningen
Marcus Berg scored twice to give Groningen a 2-1 win over struggling AZ on Sunday and heap misery on Alkmaar manager Louis van Gaal.Berg opened the scoring with a stunning volley in the 30th minute before dispatching an 86th minute penalty to give the home side all three points.
Kew Jaliens had equalised for AZ on 84 minutes after deflecting Simon Poulsen's free-kick into the Groningen goal, but Berg's late strike, his 13th of the season, ensured Groningen stole the victory.
The result leaves Groningen in sixth place on 44 points, while AZ, who have won just once in 2008, stay in 11th with 29 points.
