Tottenham 2-1 Chelsea

Jonathan Woodgate headed Tottenham to a dramatic 2-1 victory over holders Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final at Wembley thanks to a terrible howler from Petr Cech in extra-time. Cech missed a free-kick from Jermaine Jenas and only succeeded in flapping the ball against Woodgate's head and into the empty net in the 94th minute.

It was a cruel way to lose it for Cech who had made so many stunning saves during a game that ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. But it was no more than Spurs deserved after recovering from Didier Drogba's 39th minute free-kick to completely dominate the match.

They equalised through a Dimitar Berbatov penalty on 70 minutes after Wayne Bridge handled in the area and only Cech's bravery prevented Berbatov or Didier Zokora winning it long before.

The result means Tottenham have won their first trophy since 1999 and adds to manager Juande Ramos' reputation after he also won five trophies in two years at Seville.

Nobody typified the Spurs spirit more than captain Ledley King - who came back from injury to play his first game in more than a month and only his sixth start of the season and was outstanding.
