India thrash Sri Lanka to reach Final
India will meet Australia in the Final of the Commonwealth Bank One Day International Series after thrashing Sri Lanka by seven wickets in Hobart. Sri Lanka were bowled out for only 179 in their innings and India wasted little time in reaching their target as Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir steered them home.
India were on top throughout as they reduced their opponents to 93-7 as some injudicious shots and fine bowling - especially from Praveen Kumar and Ishant Sharma, who took four wickets each at the cost of 31 and 41 runs respectively - led to regular dismissals.
Sri Lanka had to win to have any chance of progressing to the best-of-three Final, and Chamara Kapugedera scored 57 to add some respectability to their total.
It never looked like being enough, though, as Tendulkar and Gambhir put together a 102-run partnership for the second wicket as both batsmen went on to score 63.
Gambhir was unbeaten as India sailed past the 180 target with over 17 overs to spare, and they will face Australia in the first Final in Sydney on March 2, while Sri Lanka must play the hosts in a dead rubber in Melbourne on Friday.
