Eduardo to travel to Euro 2008 with Croatia

Eduardo is still planning to travel with the Croatian side to the Euro 2008 Finals in Austria and Switzerland this summer. The Arsenal striker suffered heartbreak when he was ruled out of the competition after he fractured his left fibula and dislocated his ankle joint in the same leg following a challenge by Birmingham defender Martin Taylor.

Eduardo was released from hospital on Wednesday and expects to be ruled out for the next nine months.

Croatia boss Slaven Bilic was shocked to hear the news and believes he will be irreplaceable for the tournament.

But Eduardo is determined to still be among the squad and lend his support to the players as they prepare to face Germany, Poland and Austria in the group stages.

Croatian Football Federation general secretary Zorislav Srebric said: ""It is still not 100 per cent sure, but he would most probably travel with the team as our moral support.

"We still do not know how long he will be out, but I've seen huge optimism in him. His family keeps him optimistic."
