Van Marwijk agrees to become Dutch coach

Bert van Marwijk has agreed to leave Feyenoord and become boss of the Dutch National side after the 2008 European Championships in Austria and Switzerland. Marco van Basten, the incumbent coach, has already announced he will leave his post and take charge at Ajax after the tournament.

Van Marwijk will become the fifth coach to have managed both Feyenoord and the Dutch National Team.

The 55-year-old Dutchman guided Feyenoord to victory in the 2002 UEFA Cup, the last trophy won by the club.

Van Marwijk coached Feyenoord in 163 Eredivisie matches, a club record.

Van Marwijk's only appearance as a player for the Dutch National team came in a friendly match on 31 May 1975 against Yugoslavia, which ended in a 3-0 defeat.
