Smith eyes promotion run-in
Tommy Smith says Watford's next two fixtures against promotion rivals Bristol City and Stoke will determine whether they will be in the Premier League next season. Smith, whose side were held to a 1-1 draw by Norwich at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night, expects the Championship title race to go down to the very last game of the season.
And with a visit to Ashton Gate to come next Tuesday, Smith is hoping Watford can close the gap on the league leaders with an important victory.
"The next two games are going to be huge and will shape the way this division finishes," said the midfielder.
"Hopefully we can be right in there with a chance and take six points from two crucial fixtures.
"It's so tight at the moment and it looks as if the top spot is cursed.Anyone that gets to the top seems to go on a bad run and hopefully we can capitalise on that in the next couple of games.
"We had chances to kill the game off and we didn't take them. It's frustrating but it's something we need to improve if we're going to win promotion."
